Search crews looking for man missing in Delaware Water Gap
Manuel Gamiz Jr.Of The Morning Call
A rescue team is searching for a 36-year-old man who went missing in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area last night, authorities said.
National Park Service rangers spotted an unattended vehicle parked in a remote area on the Pennsylvania side of the park at 10 p.m. yesterday, and attempted to contact the owner of the vehicle. The rangers instead got in touch with a family member who was concerned that the missing man had not returned home.
Rangers immediately began searching the area on foot with assistance from the New Jersey State Police, who provided air support.
The search continued through the night and today.
In addition to National Park Service rangers and New Jersey State Park Police who are searching on the ground and by boat, Pennsylvania State Police are providing helicopter support and East Penn Search and Rescue and Valley Search and Rescue are on the ground with search dogs.
The man, who was not identified, is 6 feet 190 pounds with short blond hair and blue eyes. He has a small scar above his right eyebrow and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark-colored wool coat.
Anyone with information is asked to call the park's 24-hour toll-free emergency hotline at 800-543-4295.
